A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, James Maxwell has been working as an artist and operating Maxwell Design since 1985. Though working primarily in a variety of metals, his work also includes the use of wood, glass and found objects. James has been commisioned to make many diverse works for private and public space, from retail signage to residential furniture and architectural details including railings and gates. His designs have been featured in numerous publications such as Canadian House and Home, and Better Homes and Gardens.
In addition to his own work, he has also worked with a variety of artists including Liz Magor, Eldon Garnet, Gord Peteran, Norman White, Simone Jones, Colette Whiten and Rae Davis.
He is currently teaching Environmental and Industrial design students at the Ontario College of Art and Design while maintaining his role at Maxwell Design.
